Die XBox Festplatte wird durch ein ATA Passwort geschützt, d.h. die Festplatte muss durch senden eines 32 Byte Passworts beim Booten entsperret werden, sonst wird jeder Lese- oder Schreibzugriff verweigert.

Wenn Sie die Festplatte einfach ohne weitere Maßnahmen in einen Linux Computer einbauen wird der Kernel beim Versuch die Partitionstabelle zu lesen eine Menge Fehler produzieren. Nur der Festplatten Typ und das Layout werden korrekt erkannt. Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten trotzdem auf die Daten zuzugreifen:

• Finden Sie das ATA Passwort heraus und modifizieren Sie den Linux Kernel so, dass er die Festplatte beim Booten entsperrt.
• Lassen Sie die XBox die Festplatte entsperren und benutzen Sie diese danach unter Linux.

Das Entsperren der Festplatte durch die XBox ist der einfachere Weg, deswegen wird dieser hier genauer behandelt. Befolgen Sie einfach diese Schritte:

1. Öffnen Sie Ihre XBox damit Sie einfachen Zugriff auf die Festplatte haben und stellen Sie die Konsole direkt neben Ihren Computer. Sie müssen darauf achten, dass das Kabel des zweiten IDE-Anschlusses und das Stromkabel auch in Reichweite sind um die XBox Festplatte daran anschließen zu können. Stecken Sie alle anderen IDE-Geräte am zweiten IDE-Anschluss aus.
2. Schließen Sie nun das Stromkabel des Computers an der XBox Festplatte an. Diesen Schritt können Sie ohne weiteres überspringen, aber Sie werden die XBox in diesem Falle so lange laufen lassen müssen bis Sie mit der Arbeit an der Festplatte fertig sind.
3. Schalten Sie den Linux Computer an und warten Sie im Boot Loader.
4. Schalten Sie nun die XBox an und warten Sie bis das Hauptmenü erscheint.
5. Stecken Sie jetzt das XBox IDE-Kabel aus und stecken Sie das vom Computer ein.
6. Danach können Sie Linux booten. Die Festplatte wird als /dev/hdc mit einem unbekannten Partitionierungsschema erkannt.
7. Wenn Sie zuvor das Stromkabel des Computers an die XBox Festplatte angeschlossen haben können Sie nun die XBox ausschalten.

Damit haben Sie vollen Zugriff auf die XBox Festplatte unter /dev/hdc.

Eine andere Möglichkeit an das ATA Passwort zu kommen, ohne dabei die XBox aufzuschrauben, kann durch eine Telnet Session erfolgen. Vorraussetzung ist hierbei das man wie in der Software Methode Anleitung (MechInstaller USB Stick erstellen) vorgegangen ist. Hat man die entsprechenden Mechinstaller auf der HD untergebracht kann man das Linux Rescue System starten. Hier gibt man dann den Befehl "xbox_tool -p" ein der dann die notwendigen infos ausspuckt (HDD Password). Also wie folgt vogehen:

1. USB Stick mit MEchinstaller präparieren
2. mindestens Spielestand "Emergency Linux" vom USB Stick auf die Festplatte kopieren.
3. MechAssault Spiel einlegen.
4. Wähle "Kampagne" aus.
5. Wähle "Emergency Linux" aus.

Wenn jetzt der Bildschirm flackern sollte muss man sich per telnet von einem anderen Rechner auf die XBox verbinden:

1. telnet 192.168.0.3
2. Account: root
3. Password: xbox
4. Führe dann folgenden Befehl aus: xbox_tool -p

Als Ergebnis solltest Du so was wie das hier in etwa erhalten:

Ich habe allerdings mit der hier beschriebenen Methode noch nicht ausprobiert ob das HDD Password mit Linux übereinstimmt! Es wäre schön wenn jemand dies hier bestätigen könnte.
