Battery instead of capacitor

Don't suppose it would be possible to remove the damn capacitor and replace it with a battery of the sorts, would it?

That would be really helpful, even if you don't intend on using the soft-mod method...

I agree, and I was literally going into this discussion page to suggest this exact idea. Great minds, eh? I think when my Xbox arrives I'll do a little analysis of the voltage across the capacitor (bunnie mentioned a 1F capacitor), and see what could be done.

Any other comments? It can't be hard to solder on a 3V Li button cell, can it? Or is there a really obvious problem that I've overlooked?

A little closer look at Bunnie's article shows exactly why... I'll let you read the forum post yourself if you want to see why (http://www.xenatera.com/bunnie/proj/anatak/rtc.html) they don't use a battery! It's something to do with a high current drawn from the battery for the RTC, meaning that the battery would only last about 60 days. I thought that a 1F (that's huge, for anyone who doesn't know) capacitor should last a little longer than it does, so that only seems to confirm my suspicions...

How long?

About how long will the capacitor last? I'm wondering because I often enjoy playing Halo with my friend, and system-linked Halo is far better than split screen.
