Talk:Xbox USB Compatibility List

From Xbox-Linux

The quality of this list needs to be improved quite a bit!!! First of all, many of USB devices are cross-listed as both "working" and "not working", and someone who is looking to buy a USB device that will definitely work with Dashboard has no idea what to do. The list is almost useless. I tried the SanDisk Cruzer Mini 256 MB, and it caused the Xbox screen to flash constantly without recognizing it. I have a version 1.3 Xbox. I suspect that there must be a better way of telling if a particular USB device will work or not. I've tried three flash drives and one card reader, and none worked. Maybe most of you got lucky.

A Cheap Option? After trying 3 different thumbdrives I have (and adding one to the list by model number), I remembered that Staples had cheap little 64 MB thumb drives up near the register for $7.99 a piece. Figuring it's not much to lose, I picked one up on 9/19/2006. Plugged it in, formated fine. I had to open the 8-32 MB image and write it to 64 MB stick, but the files appeared and copied flawlessly, booted into emergency linux without a hitch. I've added this information to the working list. I wanted to point this out on discussion because it's a very inexpensive answer to the problem. -Linoth

in answer to... "Paradigit (aka Apacer)' 256MB USB2.0 memory stick - It would be nice to know exactly which Apacer model this corresponds to. The Apacer english website lists the following usb models: HANDY STENO TN202, HANDY STENO 2.0, HANDY STENO 1.1 (two different versions), MEGA STENO 2.0, MEGA STENO 1.1, AUDIO STENO BP300, and AUDIO STENO NV400. - pg~" I can confirm it work, the prints on the key I borrowed from a collegue says exactly: "Apacer 256M and then HANDY STENO 2.0", there you have it.

Another thing is that the Sweex 128 MB USB 2.0 doesn't work (bought it but am dissapointed), it give an error on the Xbox, in not exact the words: Memory card damaged, so beware of that one, may a version without the additional USB 2.0 does work?if it even exists.

Has anyone tried SanDisk Cruzer Mini 512MB USB2.0?

I have no problem getting the xbox to recognize and format it, i just can't get the AR software to recognize it. Thanks

SanDisk Cruzer Mini/Micro 512MB FIX:

I succeeded getting the exploit on the memory stick.

This time I went back to the xbox and copied an existing game save to the stick. (obviously not an SC, MA, or 007) It was NFL Fever. (I tried it again with a Killswitch save to make sure it would work with any game save.)

When I went into the Action Replay software, it recognized the existing game save on the stick, and this time it would let me copy over the exploit save. Whooopeee!

This info might solve a lot of “compatibility” issues with other brands of USB memory sticks.

Dell 64MB

I'm trying to get a Dell 64mb pen drive working. Xbox dash doesn't even recognise it as bad memory (no pop up message comes up at all). If any one has got this working please let us know if there are any addaiitonal steps needed.

^TIA!

Try using eraser here (http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/), I had this problem too but this fixed it.

HEy how do you use a 256 sandisk cruzer mini? I cannot get mega x key to work with this...

SanDisk Cruzer Mini 512MB USB2.0 - Cannot format now?

Has anyone attempted to use a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 512MB USB2.0 key and afterwards found they could not format it in Windows? After unsuccessfully attempting to use this key to softmod my XBOX I am no longer able to use it on my PC. I get the error messages "Windows was unable to complete the format" and "Media is Write Protected". Any idea how I might resolve this?

CORSAIR Flash Voyager

I noticed that the page was recently updated with "Corsair Flash Voyager." Can you be more specific? I've found a place that has "CORSAIR Flash Voyager 512MB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model CMFUSB2.0-512". Is this the one that is compatible?

Creative MP3 Players

Just wanted to say that ALL of the usb MP3 players from Creative (i.e. txfm muvo, zen series nano, etc) work as xbox memory cards, and with the action replay, if you modify the driver (too much info to tell you how here) Just plug them into your custom interface to your xbox and it will format them to memory cards. When ready to listen to music again, just plug it back into your computer and format. It doesnt affect the player's ability to play music at all. Once you format it back, it works fine.

512MB Procedure

Hi I am using a 512MB flash drive...

The XBOX recognizes it and formats it just fine...

The part i need help with... A) Which image should I use... Since there is no image for a 512MB card... B) Which option should I select in ozxmemory... THere is no "Write to 512MB stick" option...

I have tried opening the 32MB img and writing it to a 32 MB stick but when I connect to the xbox all I see on the memory stick is an entry for MechAssault 1.0 which seems to be blank, I can focus on it but can't click on it any further or copy it...

Any help is appreciated... stnd at cigsoft dot com...
