Xbox DVD Drive Identification HOWTO

When buying a used Xbox it is often possible to ask the sales person to turn on the unit and open the DVD tray. Once open look at the pattern of holes and the size of the center one and compare it with this image:

Since December 2004 MS made Xbox with LG-HITACHI dvd drive. Quality of this drive is nice, like a Samsung!

Since many people use CD/RW to install linux I thought I'd mention my first Thomson refused the first 4 brands I tried, but the Samsung read them all.
